Dual-Line Pipeline Delivery with Value-Driven Design

Lauren was selected by Pembina Pipeline to deliver engineering services for the Phase 8 Gordondale to La Glace Pipeline Project, a dual-line NPS 16 and NPS 10 multi-service pipeline system operating at 9,930 kPa and spanning approximately 70 kilometres in northwest Alberta. The project included two parallel pipelines, associated risers, and above-ground sectionalizing valve sites designed to support long-term, reliable operations.

Lauren provided full FEED and detailed pipeline engineering, technical procurement support, and construction-phase engineering services. Scope included Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs), detailed design reports, decision records, alignment sheets, valve site design, stress and fatigue analysis, and constructability oversight to support efficient execution.

Engineering Through Complex Conditions

The alignment traversed designated Green Zone areas characterized by deep muskeg, requiring winter construction and innovative engineering approaches. The project served as a testing ground for new design ideas and methodologies, establishing a template for future pipeline development in similar terrain.

Lauren delivered targeted value engineering to reduce risk, improve constructability, and control costs. This included a cost-effective test pit program to de-risk muskeg conditions, combined alignment sheets and standardized typical drawings, optimized Class 2 pipeline and Class 1 valve spacing, and refined ditchline design to reduce excavation volumes. Comprehensive cost-benefit analysis was applied across all design elements, delivering measurable efficiencies without compromising safety or performance
