Civil Engineering Solutions for Operational Reliability

In Vancouver, British Columbia, Lauren partnered with Univar Solutions to deliver a practical and cost-effective redesign of existing truck scale infrastructure, ensuring compliance with updated regulatory requirements while minimizing operational disruption. The project focused on modifying concrete scale ramps that no longer met Sections 63 and 64 of SI/98-81, which require a three-metre flat approach on both sides of a truck weigh scale. Lauren provided end-to-end civil and geotechnical engineering support, from concept development through construction-ready drawings, enabling Univar to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient site operations.

Delivering Regulatory Compliance with Constructability in Mind

The existing sloped concrete ramps at the Univar facility did not meet current regulatory standards. Lauren’s team developed a redesigned approach that replaced the non-compliant ramps with new concrete configurations aligned with the weigh scale plane on both sides. Engineering efforts included constructability-focused concept sketches, detailed demolition and installation drawings, and a geotechnical recommendation memo addressing subgrade preparation to support long-term durability and performance. The result was a compliant solution that balanced safety, cost control, and operational practicality.

Practical Execution for an Active Industrial Site

Working within an active industrial environment, Lauren provided construction support alongside a complete Issued for Review (IFR) and Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing package. Close coordination between civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines ensured the redesign could be executed efficiently, with minimal disruption to ongoing site operations. The project demonstrates Lauren’s ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear, buildable engineering solutions that keep facilities moving safely and reliably.
