Strengthening Network Resilience Through Smart Urban Design
Reliable Contingency Power for Growing Communities
In Kelowna, British Columbia, Lauren partnered with FortisBC to design and deliver a critical 13kV underground feeder tie, enhancing system reliability and operational flexibility for a growing urban development. The project created a 3-phase contingency connection between two existing pad-mounted switchgear units, spanning approximately 3 km and leveraging existing duct banks to minimize surface disruption.
Delivering dependable power through integrated electrical and civil design
Lauren provided detailed electrical and civil engineering to support the installation of 750 MCM underground feeder cable, complete with new terminations, separable splices, and strategically placed junction boxes. The design incorporated service boxes for future load growth and integrated streetlight system modifications to maintain clearances and code compliance. Constructability reviews and routing assessments ensured seamless integration within a dense residential environment.
Proactive planning to overcome urban execution challenges
The project required careful navigation of aging duct infrastructure, limited staging areas, traffic constraints, and conflicts with existing services. Lauren mitigated these risks through early as-built reviews, field verifications, test pulls, and close coordination with municipal stakeholders. Early procurement of long-lead materials and just-in-time delivery strategies ensured uninterrupted progress.
